We wanted to talk to you today about someone who we consider a good friend of military veterans and has always been there for those of us who have worn our country’s uniform.

Congressman Richard Pombo has distinguished himself as a leader for veterans and those currently serving our nation. Over the years, we have been able to count on Richard Pombo when we have needed help or assistance. His office has prided itself on delivering for local veterans when they have problems dealing with the VA, Social Security or other federal agencies and he is always accessible and willing to get involved personally to help one of our own.

While Richard Pombo has done his job on the local level, he is even more of a force for veterans in Washington. Just this year, Pombo was honored by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for his legislative efforts to authorize the creation of an official visitors’ center adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall. In the last five years with Pombo fighting for us in Congress we have seen both GI Bill Educational benefits and funding for the Veterans Administration increased by 46 percent.

Election year politics are allowing people to distort Richard Pombo’s history of supporting veterans.

Richard Pombo’s record on our issues is something we should be thankful for. It’s nice to know we have a friend who is there to help us. We believe it’s time that veterans repay him with our support and our votes.
